EVENT SCHEDULE

All workshops, round table discussions & portfolio reviews are conducted at Alaska Ridgetop Inn. Alaska Ridgetop Inn is approximately 6 miles from downtown Homer surrounded by lawns and gardens with views of Kachemak Bay and Cook Inlet. A spacious, quiet, picturesque setting for the Homer Photo Fest

To make use of every possible minute, and so that you can meet and talk with the jurors, round table facilitators and fellow workshop participants Homer Photo Fest provides a family dining atmosphere. Alaska Ridgetop Inn is famous for its food, which is hearty, ample and served buffet style.

Coffee ready at 6:00am Breakfast served from 7 to 8:30am Lunch is served from 12 noon to 1pm (see meal plan)

Evening public events are held at participating venues: Bunnell Street Gallery, Pratt Museum, Homer Council on the Arts and the Kachemak Bay Campus-Kenai Peninsula College/UAA.

 

Tuesday, August 4th

5pm: Lecture by Keith Carter, "More Gumbo Ya Ya," at Kachemak Bay Campus-Kenai Peninsula College/UAA, 533 East Pioneer Avenue.

 

Wednesday, August 5th

9am to 3pm: Workshop (Lunch served noon to 1pm). Amy Scott "When a Photographer and a Landscape Collaborate," Alaska Ridgetop Inn, (907) 235-5680.

Thursday, August 6th

6:30pm: Lecture by Amy Scott, “Science or Art? Photography and the Opening of the American West,” Kachemak Bay Campus-Kenai Peninsula College/UAA, 533 East Pioneer Avenue.

 

Friday, August 7th

9am to 3pm: Workshop (Lunch served noon to 1pm). Keith Carter "Gumbo Ya Ya, which is a Louisiana Creole term meaning "everybody talking at once," Alaska Ridgetop Inn, (907) 235-5680.

5pm: Reception & Opening, Chris Gibbs, Five Days in Romania," Bunnell Street Gallery, 106 Bunnell street Gallery.

6:30pm Lecture by Ted Orland, "The View From The Studio Door," Kachemak Bay Campus-Kenai Peninsula College/UAA, 533 East Pioneer Avenue.

 

Saturday, August 8th

9am to 4pm: One-on-one portfolio reviews (Lunch served noon to 1pm).
Reviewers: Ted Orland, Keith Carter &Amy Scott. Schedule and number of reviews for each participant will be determined by August 7th.
Concurrently: Round table discussions facilitated by accomplished Alaskan photographers. The round table discussions are designed for a free flow of movement between discussions and portfolio reviews. Alaska Ridgetop Inn, (907) 235-5680.
Hal Gage- "Tips and Tricks processing RAW digital files."
Ben Huff- "Alaska as Place, our role as Alaskan photographers and how we approach the landscape and people before us - both historically and as a contemporary construct."
Charles Mason- "Embracing Chance, Risk and Happy Accidents in the Digital World."
Brian Schneider- "The future of photographic education: how important is the teaching of the traditional process?"
Beth Skabar- "New Documentary: current trends in documentary photography."
Maggie Skiba- "Toy Camera Resources: what's out there and how to get involved."
